There is hereby created the office of Building Official of the
City of Pevely, Missouri, and such person as shall be appointed by
the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen of Pevely, Missouri,
to such office shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Aldermen.

A. The
City Building Official shall have the following duties:
1. He/she shall advise the Board of Aldermen as to building specifications
and requirements within the City of Pevely, Missouri.
2. He/she shall advise and be a consultant to and attend the meetings
of the City's Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
3. He/she shall perform such other duties as may be required by ordinance
or Statute.
4. He/she will make an inspection concerning the construction, alteration,
addition, repair, removal, demolition, use, location, occupancy and
maintenance of all real estate, buildings and structures and their
service equipment to existing or proposed buildings and structures
in the City of Pevely, Missouri, County of Jefferson, under the provisions
of the Building Code.
5. The Building Official will advise the Board of Aldermen on all violations
regarding any provisions of the Building Code, or any violation of
an approved plan or directive of the Building Official, or of a permit
or certificate issued under the provisions of the Building Code and
shall serve a stop order for said violations.
6. The Building Official shall have a basic working knowledge on the
principles of fire prevention and shall notify and advise the Dunklin
Fire Marshall of any violations pertaining to their Fire Code or permits
issued.

To be eligible for appointment, the appointee shall have previous
building experience and shall be generally informed on good engineering
and building practices in respect to the design and construction of
buildings, the accepted requirements for means of ingress and egress,
and the installation of other service equipment necessary for the
health, safety, and general welfare of the occupants and the public.
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen shall have the sole discretion to
determine the appointee's eligibility.

The salary of the Building Official of the City of Pevely shall
be set by the Board of Aldermen and increases in pay shall be at the
discretion of said Board of Aldermen.
