There is hereby created the position of Codes Enforcement Officer for the Village of Whitesboro.
The Codes Enforcement Officer shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, to serve for a term of one year, commencing April 1 of each year. The salary of the Codes Enforcement Officer shall be established by resolution of the Board of Trustees.
The person appointed to fill the position of Codes Enforcement Officer shall be qualified to perform inspections under the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
The Codes Enforcement Officer shall have the following powers and duties:
A. 
To administer and enforce and make inspections relative to the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
B. 
To issue, in writing, notices or orders to remove illegal or unsafe conditions, to require necessary safeguards during construction and to ensure compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and all applicable provisions of the Code of the Village of Whitesboro.
C. 
To keep permanent official records of all transactions and activities conducted by him, including all applications received, permits issued and inspections conducted.
D. 
Whenever appropriate to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable laws and codes, to accept and rely upon written reports of inspections or tests in the field by experienced professional persons or by accredited and authoritative testing laboratories or service and inspection bureaus or agencies.
