The Old Tappan Fire Police, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 15:8-4, is hereby established to consist of such number of fire personnel, who have successfully completed the training of "Fire Police" and are to be governed by such rules as the Mayor and Council may from time to time designate. Fire Police are members of the Old Tappan Fire Department and must be trained firefighters. Fire Police are required to wear fire police badges issued by the Old Tappan Fire Department.
A. 
The duties of the Fire Police shall be to assist the Fire Department of the Borough of Old Tappan in the performance of its duty, by establishing fire lines, preventing interference with the work of the firefighter and allowing no one access to pass the fire lines except those entitled to do so.
B. 
Other duties.
(1) 
Other duties may include:
(a) 
Protection of property and contents.
(b) 
Establish and maintain fire lines.
(c) 
Perform such traffic duties as necessary from the fire station to and at the vicinity of the fire, fire drill, or other emergency call, until the arrival of a duly authorized police officer.
(d) 
In the absence of investigating authority, Fire Police shall investigate all causes of and preserve all evidence pertaining to questionable fires and turn evidence over to proper investigating authorities.
(e) 
Wear the Fire Police badge on the left breast of the outmost garment while on duty.
(2) 
These other duties will be assigned at the incident by the Fire Chief or the Incident Commander on scene.
