There is hereby established for the City a Fire Department for the welfare and protection of the citizens of the City and of their property.

The Chief of the Fire Department and the other firemen shall receive such compensation as is or may be fixed by ordinance.

The Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief shall have had at least six (6) months' prior experience or training in firefighting, fire prevention and fire protection.

The Fire Chief shall be in general charge of the Fire Department and firefighting equipment of the City and shall serve as the emergency preparedness coordinator for the City.

The Assistant Fire Chief shall perform the duties of Fire Chief at such times as the Fire Chief may be absent, disqualified or otherwise unable to act, and at other time shall render services as a regular member of the Fire Department.

All persons presently employed by or hereafter appointed to a position in the Marshall Fire Department must be a resident of the City of Marshall, Missouri, or must reside within five (5) miles by roadway, from the City limits of Marshall, Missouri.
