Avis Fire Company No. 1 is recognized as the officially recognized
fire company within the Borough of Avis.
Volunteer firefighters of the officially recognized fire company
are authorized to provide such services to the Borough as may be necessary
for the protection of property and persons situate therein, including,
by way of example and not of limitation, the extinguishment of fires
and all such activities as may be necessary and appropriate to prevent
or reduce the risk of loss of life or damage to property from fire,
automobile accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials injuries
or other similar dangerous situations.
Volunteer firefighters may also provide nonemergency and public
service functions, such as the removal, abatement or mitigation of
natural or man-made conditions which might cause injuries to persons
or damage to property.
Volunteer firefighters may conduct and participate in such training
activities and drills, either within or outside of the Borough, as
may be deemed necessary by the appropriate officers of the fire company
to maintain proficiency in providing service.
Volunteer firefighters may respond to calls or provide services
to municipalities outside the Borough limits pursuant to mutual assistance
agreements.
Volunteer firefighters may engage in fund-raising activities
for the fire company when authorized by the appropriate officers of
the company, and may engage in such other duties or activities as
duly authorized by said fire company.
The purpose of this chapter is to recognize Avis Fire Company
No. 1 as the official fire company of the Borough and to set forth
the expanded scope of duties for volunteer firefighters in order to
clarify the eligibility of said volunteer firefighters for workers'
compensation benefits.
