The purpose of this article is to supersede New York State Public
Officers Law § 3, to authorize the Cayuga County Sheriff's
Deputies or corrections officers to reside in Cayuga County or any
adjoining county within the State of New York.
In Cayuga County, the provisions of § 3 of the New
York State Public Officers Law authorization requiring a person to
be a resident of the political subdivision or municipal corporation
of the state for which such person shall be chosen or within which
such person's official functions are required to be exercised shall
not prevent a person from holding the office of Deputy Sheriff in
Cayuga County; provided, however, that such person performing duties
and functions of Deputy Sheriff or corrections officer reside in Cayuga
County or any adjoining county within New York State unless otherwise
provided by law.
