Commencing with property taxes payable for the year 1997 in
accordance with the provisions of Real Property Tax Law § 928(1-a),
every tax which is payable on real property which is used as a principal
residence of and owned by one or more persons, either or both of whom
have received an exemption pursuant to Real Property Tax Law § 467
related to such property, may be paid in two equal installments, the
first not later than February 1 and, provided that the first installment
has been paid, the second, with interest as determined pursuant to
Real Property Tax Law § 924-a, shall be paid prior to August
1 within the City of Albany and prior to April 1 within the towns
in Albany County.
The aforesaid authorization for the installment payment of property
taxes is not to be effective within the City of Cohoes and the City
of Watervliet, which have in place existing authorizations for the
installment payment of real property taxes.
