There is hereby established a Veterans Advisory Commission.
This Commission shall be comprised of 13 men. Ten shall be selected
and confirmed by the City Council, consisting of two members from
each ward of the City. Three members shall be appointed by the Mayor
without City Council approval. However, the Chairperson of the Health
and Education Committee may serve as a liaison between the Committee
and the governing body. Members shall serve for a two-year term. However,
if any term shall commence after the first of any year that term shall
be considered a full-year term at the end thereof. A majority of the
members must be veterans.
The Veterans Advisory Commission shall, at its initial meeting
in each calendar year, designate a Chairman, who shall be responsible
for calling meetings and ensuring that the Commission performs its
duties and responsibilities, as well as a Vice Chair to ensure that
the Commission maintains continuity in the event the Chair is absent.
The Veterans Advisory Commission shall concern itself with policies
and matters relating to the social economics, educational, health
and employment issues of veterans. The Commission shall work to improve
the quality of life of our veterans.
