Plumbing fixtures shall be properly connected to either a public
sewer system or to an approved private sewage disposal system. Existing on-lot (private) sewage facilities shall comply with the Pennsylvania Code, Title 25, Chapter 71 and the Manheim Township Code of Ordinances, Chapter 399 Sewers and Sewage Disposal.
In existing structures with on-lot sewage systems an inspection,
performed by an approved septic service company in accordance with the current Manheim Township Administrative Order, shall evaluate and verify that the on-lot sewage facility(s) properly operates in accordance with Manheim Township Code of Ordinances, Chapter 399 Sewers and Sewage Disposal regulations prior to the issuance of any permit. Provisions shall be made for additional flows when bedrooms are added, or as other conditions warrant. Noted
deficiencies shall be corrected under a permit issued by the Manheim
Township Sewage Enforcement Officer.
Every plumbing stack, vent, waste, and sewer line shall function
properly and be kept free from obstructions, leaks and defects.
Grease interceptors and automatic grease removal devices shall
be maintained in accordance with this code and the manufacturer's
installation instructions. Grease interceptors and automatic grease
removal devices shall be regularly serviced and cleaned to prevent
the discharge of oil, grease, and other substances harmful or hazardous
to the building drainage system, the public sewer, the private sewage
disposal system or the sewage treatment plant or processes. Records
of maintenance, cleaning and repairs shall be available for inspection
by the code official.
Sump pumps discharging groundwater shall not connect to the
sanitary sewer, unless approved by the sewer authority
having jurisdiction. The sump pit shall be an approved type with a sealed lid.
