[Adopted 9-30-1986 by Doc. 179
(Ch. 245, Art. II, of the 1980 Code)]
No person shall store in the open or in public on private property any
dismantled, partially dismantled, inoperative, wrecked or junked truck or
motor vehicle of any kind or any worn out, cast-off or discarded auto parts.
Each day that prohibited articles are stored contrary to the provisions of
this article shall constitute a separate offense.
This article shall not apply to duly licensed junk and secondhand dealers
and licensed auto dealers. The provisions of MGL c. 90, §§ 22B
and 22C relating to abandoned vehicles shall prevail over this article wherever
applicable.
The Building Inspector or his designee shall tag the prohibited vehicle
with a legal notice ordering the owner to abate said violation or remove the
vehicle. The Building Inspector may, after five days, order the vehicle or
vehicles towed and stored at the expense of the owner of the vehicle or at
the expense of the landowner on whose land the prohibited vehicle is found.
If the costs of towing and/or storage exceed the value of the vehicle, the
Building Inspector may order the vehicle sold, destroyed or disposed of in
a manner he deems appropriate.
Any person who violates this article shall be fined $50 per day for
each day of violation.
