This chapter is enacted pursuant to Municipal Home Rule Law § 10(1)(ii)(a)(1) and is intended to supersede Town Law § 23(1) and Public Officer’s Law § 3(1) relating to the qualification of Town officers.
Every officer of the Town of Islip shall, at the time of his or her appointment and throughout his or her term of office, be an elector and resident of the County of Suffolk or Nassau. This shall not apply to an elected official or his or her deputies, who must be an elector and resident of the Town of Islip.
Preference in employment opportunities shall be granted to residents of the Town of Islip in the hiring process.
This chapter shall take effect when the appropriate certified copies are filed in the office of the Secretary of State.
