As used in this chapter, the following words shall have the meanings
indicated:
BUILDING
Includes all houses and dwellings, stores and business places, and
other buildings, which shall front on any street in the Township.
The Engineer shall plot on the Tax Map of the Township all the properties
which now or shall hereafter front on any street and designate and assign
a number therefor.
[Added 5-29-2007]
This chapter may be enforced by any sworn member of the Police Department or by the Construction Official who shall serve a complaint-summons upon the property owner, lessee, tenant or occupant of any structure that does not have street numbers displayed in accordance with the specifications set forth in §
124-3.
The engineer, on completion of plotting on the Township Tax Map of the
numbers assigned to all lots and buildings on a particular street, shall file
a copy thereof with the Township Clerk.
Upon any subdivision or resubdivision of land in the Township resulting
in lots other than those delineated on the map, the Engineer shall assign
a number to each lot resulting from the subdivision or resubdivision, which
shall be in proper numerical sequence in relation to the number assigned to
the other lots fronting on the same street, and he shall record the new numbers
on the map within 10 days of the filing of the approval given for such subdivision
or resubdivision of land.
No subdivision or resubdivision, major or minor, of land requiring approval
by the Planning Board shall be approved by it unless a number is assigned
by the Engineer to each lot for the building erected or to be erected on it.
No certificate of occupancy shall be issued by the Construction Official
or anyone in his department for the occupancy of any building hereafter erected
or enlarged unless the provisions of this chapter shall have been complied
with.
If the owner of any lot at any time desires the renumbering thereof,
he shall be at liberty to apply to the Township Council by petition, which
petition shall be accompanied by a properly prepared map showing the changes
desired and clearly showing how the numbers for the entire block would stand
in case renumbering is ordered. The applicant shall present with his petition
proof by affidavit that a copy of the petition, together with notice of intention
to apply to the Township Council, has been served on all the owners of property
fronting on the block, on both sides of the street, at least 10 days prior
to the date of presentation of the petition. Thereupon the Township Council
may, in its discretion, by resolution order the block to be renumbered in
the manner specified in the application or in such other manner as it may
deem best. If the Township Council orders any change in the numbering of the
block, a map, duly authenticated, shall be filed with the Township Clerk showing
the changes as made and, on the map being so filed, the numbers designated
thereon shall, as to the block in question, supersede those on the original
map referred to in this section. The changes shall be endorsed on the Official
House Numbering Map.
