Pursuant to the provisions of Section 8-31a of the Connecticut General Statutes, the town hereby adopts Section 8-31a et seq. of the Connecticut General Statutes and joins in the creation of a Regional Planning Agency for the Bridgeport region as defined by the Connecticut Development Commission under the provisions of Section 32-7 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
A. 
The town, having a population of 30,489 according to the federal census of 1950, shall have three representatives on the agency.
B. 
Pursuant to Section 8-31a of the Connecticut General Statutes, the Planning Commission of the town duly constituted pursuant to the provisions of the Connecticut General Statutes is hereby authorized to appoint to the Regional Planning Agency one elector of the town for a term of two years.
C. 
The Selectmen are hereby authorized to appoint to the agency two electors of the town in the following manner: one representative to serve one year and one representative to serve two years. Thereafter, all appointments shall be made for a period of two years. Appointees under this section shall continue to serve after expiration of their terms until their successors are appointed and take office. Appointees may be reappointed for successive terms. Terms of office of initial appointees shall commence upon establishment of the Regional Planning Agency.
Any representative who is absent from three consecutive regular meetings of the Regional Planning Agency and any intervening duly called special meetings thereof shall be considered to have resigned from the Regional Planning Agency, and the vacancy shall be filled by the Board of Selectmen or the Planning Commission, until the term expires, except that the requirements of this section may be waived where illness or other extenuating circumstances make it impossible for a representative to meet the attendance requirements of this section.
