The Drug-Free Workplace Act requires that state/local
agencies receiving federal grant funding certify that they will take
certain actions aimed at creating a drug-free workplace for their
employees.
All employees of the City of Cohoes are hereby
notified of the following:
A. The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing,
possession or use of a controlled substance is prohibited in all City
of Cohoes workplaces and at City of Cohoes worksites.
B. Employees found in violation of prohibition face disciplinary
action which may result in termination of employment or required participation
in a drug rehabilitation program.
C. As a condition of employment, each employee will abide
by the terms of this statement and is required to notify the City
of Cohoes Civil Service Office of any criminal drug statute conviction
for a violation occurring in the workplace or at a worksite no later
than five days after such conviction.
D. Within 30 days of such notification by the employee
or other appropriate source the City of Cohoes shall:
(1) Take appropriate personnel action against such an
employee, up to and including termination.
(2) Require such employee to participate satisfactorily
in a drug abuse assistance or rehabilitation program.
E. The City of Cohoes policy also prohibits on-the-job
use of alcohol and impairment from use of alcohol or controlled substances.
F. The City of Cohoes will establish a drug-free workplace
awareness program that will:
(1) Inform employees of the dangers of drug abuse in the
workplace.
(2) Will encourage employees experiencing substance abuse
problems to seek assistance through counseling and/or rehabilitation
services.
