There is hereby established the office of Purchasing Agent in the Township of Colts Neck.

Said Purchasing Agent shall act as contracting agent for the Township of Colts Neck and shall have the authority to prepare public advertising for bids, to receive bids for the purchase of work, materials and supplies on behalf of the Township Committee, to negotiate and award contracts which do not exceed the amount determined by the Governor pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-3b and are not required to be submitted for public bidding pursuant to the Local Public Contracts Law P.L. 1971, c. 198, as amended;[1] provided, however, that no contract in excess of $500 shall be awarded without the approval of the Committeeman in charge of the department for which the purchase is made or approval of the Mayor in those cases where either the purchase is not being made for any specific department or the Committeeman in charge of said department is not available.

The term of the office of Purchasing Agent shall be for a period of one year beginning on January 1 and expiring on December 31 of the year of appointment, or until a successor is appointed and sworn into office.
The annual salary for the office of Purchasing Agent shall be as determined from time to time by the Township Committee and shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Colts Neck.[1]
