In accordance with Article 2 of Chapter
4 of Title 27 of the Code of Virginia, the benefits described in Code of Virginia, §§ 27-43, 27-44, and 27-45 are extended to "volunteer fire fighters," as defined in Code of Virginia, § 27-42, killed or disabled in fighting a fire, or while going to or coming from a fire, as follows:
A. Payment on death: $1,000.
B. Payment for
total and permanent disability: $25 per week for 40 weeks.
C. Payment for
partial disability: $25 per week for not more than 10 weeks. [Note:
These benefits were originally extended to volunteer fire fighters
by resolution of the Board of Supervisors adopted on 5 October 1998
(see Minute Book 9, page 471). On 7 May 2012, the Board of Supervisors
elected to self-fund its obligation under the Line of Duty Act (see
Minute Book 13, page 118).]
