The purpose of this chapter shall be to promote public safety and convenience
through the provision of a rational street numbering system whereby addresses
may be identified with the ease and speed which is essential to the quick
response of emergency services such as fire-fighting, police and emergency
medical care.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
BUILDING UNIT
A single-family dwelling, multifamily dwelling, apartment or condominium
building or motel commercial establishment, industrial building or governmental
building occupied (at any time) by any person or company.
BUILDING UNIT NUMBER
A number consisting of one or more digits, each digit being no less
than four inches in height and two inches in width and said digits being of
such colors as to contrast with the color of the structure to which said building
unit number is attached; provided, however, that a digit for the numeral ONE
shall not be subject to the above stated width requirement.
OWNER
Any individual, person, firm, partnership, association, corporation,
organization or legal entity of any kind including municipal corporations,
government agencies or subdivisions thereof holding the legal title to real
property.
STREET
Any public street or private way servicing said building unit.
The owner of a building unit shall ascertain the proper assigned building
unit number for said building unit from the Town of Rocky Hill Building Department.
Prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy for any building
unit by the Town Building Official, the owner shall fully comply with the
provisions of this chapter. The owner of a building unit in existence as of
the effective date of this chapter shall cause the building unit number to
be displayed per the provisions of this chapter by December 1, 1994.
Should a building unit number become damaged, the owner shall repair
the same within 14 days of written notice by the Town Police Department to
the owner's most recent mailing address as listed with the Town Assessor.
