The following minimum standards shall be required
for all water supply and distribution systems constructed in the Town
of Maine.
All water supply and distribution systems shall
be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of
and be approved by the Broome County Health Department, New York State
Department of Health and/or the New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation, whichever has jurisdiction for the type of facilities
being constructed.
Each property shall have an individual water
service connection. The service connection shall consist of a corporation
stop at the main, Type K copper tubing having a minimum diameter of
3/4 inch, and a curb stop with an adjustable valve box at a point
located on or as near as possible to the right-of-way line. All service
shutoffs shall be accurately located, and two copies of an as-built
drawing showing their location, with ties, shall be furnished the
Town Clerk before the system will be accepted by the Town.
Each section of line will be subjected to hydrostatic
tests. Contractor shall furnish all equipment and connections to perform
these tests. Whenever practical, these tests shall be conducted prior
to backfilling the trench. Testing procedures, allowable leakage,
etc., shall be in accordance with Section 4: Hydrostatic Tests, as
contained in AWWA Standard C 600 (latest issue). The test pressure
shall be 150 pounds per square inch, unless indicated otherwise on
the drawings. Any leaks disclosed during testing shall be located
and repaired by the contractor at his expense.
Booster pumping stations, storage facilities
and other appurtenances to the distribution system shall be designed
and constructed to afford a maximum of public safety, dependability
and efficiency in operation and maintenance. Two copies of as-built
drawings of these facilities, together with all manuals and descriptive
data, shall be furnished the Town Clerk before the facilities will
be accepted by the Town.
