The Mayor, or the Deputy Mayor when authorized by the Mayor, is hereby
authorized to perform marriage and civil union ceremonies between such persons
as may lawfully enter into the matrimonial relation or civil union. The ceremony
performed by the Mayor or Deputy Mayor may take place within or outside of
the municipal boundaries of the Township of Rochelle Park within the discretion
of the Mayor or Deputy Mayor, as the case may be.
The Mayor or the Deputy Mayor may collect a fee for the performance
of the marriage or civil union ceremony if the Mayor or the Deputy Mayor chooses
to collect such a fee. If collected, the fee for the performance of the ceremony
shall be $100. The fee shall be due and payable upon the performance of the
ceremony and shall be payable to the municipality. Upon receipt of payment
of the aforesaid fee, the Mayor or Deputy Mayor shall arrange for the deposit
of the fee into the general fund of the Township.
The Mayor or Deputy Mayor shall be entitled to an additional salary
payment in an amount equal to the fee charged for each ceremony. These salary
payments shall be paid to the Mayor or Deputy Mayor based upon the number
of ceremonies performed and shall be paid pursuant to the annual Salary Ordinance.
In lieu of the fee described in §
127A-2, above, the Mayor or Deputy Mayor may suggest to a party that a voluntary contribution directly to a charitable organization may be made. The Mayor or Deputy Mayor may not, however, specify a specific charity.
