[Amended 4-8-1968 by Ord. No. 23-1968]
A. Additional compensation over that provided by the
Salary Ordinance of the City for overtime, when authorized by the
department head, shall be paid to any employee in accordance with
the following schedule, provided that no additional compensation shall
be paid any City official, nor shall any additional compensation be
paid any other City employee whose salary for the year, plus accumulated
earnings for overtime as of the time of payment, shall be $10,000
or more:
(1) For each hour in excess of the regular workday, 1 1/2
times the hourly rate.
(2) For work on Sundays (including holidays falling on
Sunday), except for employees regularly scheduled to so work, two
times the regular hourly rate; or for other holidays, 1 1/2 times
the regular hourly rate during regular working hours and two times
the regular hourly rate for holiday employment outside regular working
hours.
B. Such overtime compensation shall be in addition to
the regular compensation to which the employee would be entitled.
C. For the purposes of this section, employees for whom
there is no prescribed hourly rate shall have an hourly rate computable
by dividing the product of their annual salary by the number of hours
in their normal workweek times 52 weeks.
Without regard to the limitations of §
60-41, the Mayor may authorize, to the extent allowed by law, additional compensation for any employee or official where justified because of unusual work demands arising out of special projects not part of the normal duties attendant to the position or office or out of emergency conditions.
In lieu of monetary payments otherwise payable,
a department head may, in his discretion, authorize compensatory time
(computed by dividing the monetary payment otherwise due by the regular
hourly rate) with pay where an employee has worked overtime within
a calendar month computed as provided in this chapter. Such compensatory
time shall be taken within 30 days of the period during which it was
earned and should not be added to vacation periods.
No payments shall be made for overtime of less than 30 minutes of any one day, but compensatory time as provided under §
60-43 may be provided therefor.
All compensatory time shall be taken and all
overtime payments shall be reported, approved and paid within 30 days
from the date earned instead of being permitted to accumulate.
Each department shall submit monthly reports
to the Mayor indicating the overtime worked by each employee, the
amount of compensatory payments, the extent of compensatory time authorized
and such other and further information as the Mayor may request.
