A house and building numbering system is hereby
established in the Township of Carneys Point. Said system shall be
based in general on the division of east and west numbers at Broad
Street in the Township of Carneys Point and the Borough of Penns Grove,
and north and south numbers at State Highway No. 48, known as "Harding
Highway," being an extension of East Main Street.
The Township Committee or its designee shall
notify the owners of houses and buildings in the Township of the new
number established for the individual property. Such notice shall
be provided in writing. The owner shall, within 20 days after said
notice, remove any old identifying numbers from the property and install
the new number in compliance with this chapter.
The owner of each and every house, store, business,
apartment or other principal building within the Township of Carneys
Point which has been assigned a street number in accordance with this
chapter shall cause same to be permanently and conspicuously placed
and maintained as follows:
A. On buildings visible from the street, when said building
is not more than 50 feet from the street: on, above or at the side
of the main entrance door so that the number is discernible from the
street.
B. On buildings more than 50 feet from the street or
when the entrance to said building is not visible from the street:
the number shall be located along a walk, driveway or other suitable
location so that the number is discernible from the street.
C. On mailboxes, when the mailbox is at curbside or the
street line.
The Construction Code Official and the Construction
Office for Carneys Point Township shall enforce this chapter and act
as the designee of the Carneys Point Township Committee for such purpose.
Any owner failing to remove inaccurate identifying
numerals or failing to install new numerals as required by this chapter
shall be subject to a penalty of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment
for a term not exceeding 90 days, or both, for such violation.
