It is the purpose and intent of this chapter to promote the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the Town of Newfane by regulating the size, location and visibility of house numbers so that they are more readily visible to emergency response units, such as firemen, rescue, ambulance and police.
For all houses and/or dwellings that have been assigned a house number indicating their street location and address or which may be assigned in the future, the house number shall be of a minimum size of four inches high, shall be in numerals and not in script and shall be posted on the front of the house or dwelling or attached building in such a place and in such a manner as to be readily visible from the street or highway upon which said house and/or dwelling fronts. In the event that a house and/or dwelling is situated such a distance from the street or road that the house number would not be readily visible from the street or road, then a sign shall be erected upon which the house number shall be placed in such a location that the house number is readily visible from the street or road. The house number may be posted on the mailbox or post upon which the mailbox is situate only if the mailbox is located on the same side of the street or road as the dwelling, is located on the same premises as the house and/or dwelling and in reasonable proximity thereto and there are no other mailboxes located on the premises or in close proximity to the mailbox being used to post the house numbers.

Any person, firm or corporation who or which violates any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation subject to a fine not exceeding $250.
