Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135, there is hereby created the office of
Deputy Municipal Clerk in the Township of Independence, New Jersey.
The Township Committee shall make all appointments to the office of
Deputy Municipal Clerk and shall provide compensation for any such appointee.
The Deputy Clerk, as so appointed, shall have the power and duty to
execute all documents required by any law or ordinance to be executed by the
Clerk and affix the seal of the Township thereto whenever required and shall
have such further power and authority as may be provided by statute.
When signing any document, the Deputy Clerk shall sign the name of the
Township Clerk followed by the word "By" and the Deputy Clerk's own name and
the words "Deputy Clerk."
The powers and duties herein described shall be exercised by such Deputy
Clerk only during the absence or disability of the Township Clerk and only
when either written direction has been given by the Township Clerk to exercise
such power or the Township Committee has determined by resolution that the
Township Clerk is temporarily or permanently incapacitated to perform such
function.
The term of office of any such Deputy Clerk shall be for a period of
three years.
