Under the direction of the Superintendent of Public
Works, the Senior Mechanic shall take the lead over one or more employees
engaged in performing varied mechanical work involved in the repair,
maintenance, and servicing of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment,
and working with various machine and hand tools common to the trade.
The Senior Mechanic shall perform other related work as required.
Possess four years of varied experience in the maintenance
and repair of various types of motor vehicles and/or construction
equipment, such as bulldozers, cranes, road graders, power shovels
or similar equipment. Possession of a certificate showing successful
completion of a vocational-educational training program in automotive
mechanics, approved by the New Jersey Department of Education, may
be substituted for one year of experience indicated above. In addition,
possession of a certificate as an automotive mechanic, issued by the
National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, may be substituted
for one year of experience indicated above.
A driver's license valid in New Jersey, only if the
operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary
to perform essential duties of the position.
The Senior Mechanic may also be required to possess
a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and applicable endorsements
for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
