The survey plan and system for the numbering of houses and buildings, prepared by the Township Engineers Damon & Foster, Civil Engineers, dated April 11, 1949, copies of which are on file in the office of the Township Secretary and in the office of the Township Engineers, are hereby approved and adopted.
On and after the effective date of this chapter, it shall be the duty of each and every owner or occupier of each and every house, building or other structure in the Township of Marple to cause the same to be numbered in accordance with this chapter and the system and plan hereby adopted and approved.

A. 
The numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous place near each front door. The numbers shall be of painted metal or enamel and shall be at least three inches in height, and the numbers shall be of such color as to be in contrast with the immediate background and shall be so placed as to be in full view from the curb of the street. Where a curb mailbox is used, a minimum of two-inch numbers shall be placed on both sides of said mailbox.
B. 
In addition to this requirement, whenever any building is situated more than 50 feet from the street line, a second set of house numbers shall be placed near the walk, driveway or common entrance to the land on which the building is erected or upon a gatepost, rural mailbox, fence, tree or other appropriate place so as to be easily discernible from the street.[1]

It shall be unlawful to cover any house number with any sign, drapery or obstruction tending to cause such number to be invisible.

It shall be the duty of the Department of Code Enforcement to furnish the proper address for any new structure that shall hereafter be erected. It shall be the responsibility of every builder or developer to place upon any new dwelling or building a house number in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.

Any person, firm or corporation who shall number or attempt to number any house or building contrary to the provisions of this chapter and plan hereby approved and adopted or who shall, for a period of five days after notice in writing from the Department of Code Enforcement, fail or neglect to number his, their or its house or building in accordance herewith or who shall, for a period of five days after notice in writing from the Township Secretary, fail to change the number thereof in accordance with this chapter and any person, firm or corporation who or which shall alter, deface, remove and destroy any number required to be displayed by this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to a maximum fine of $1,000 plus costs of prosecution, and, in default of payment of such fine and costs, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 30 days. Every day that such violation shall continue shall constitute a separate offense.
