As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
BUILDING
The principal building or buildings on each lot and shall not be
deemed to include any minor building.
STREET
A public or private street, road, right-of-way, highway, alley or
sidewalk.
The Building Inspector is hereby authorized to decide which building
or buildings on any particular lot shall be numbered. Each such building shall
be assigned a separate distinguishing number by the Building Inspector in
conformity with a uniform numbering system encompassing the entire village,
which is in compliance with a numbering system, if any, provided by the United
States Postal Service.
It shall be the duty of every owner of a building in the village to
cause to be displayed thereon the street number of said building and, in the
case of buildings containing more than one unit, to cause to be displayed
on the front door of each unit the number of said unit and at all times to
maintain such number or numbers in compliance with the provisions of this
chapter.
The display of any building number other than the number assigned by
the Building Inspector is expressly prohibited.
Compliance with this chapter shall be required as of January 1, 1998.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon
conviction, be punishable by a fine not to exceed $250. Each calendar week
that said violation continues shall be deemed a separate violation.
