The Parking Violations Officer, under direction, patrols a designated area to inspect the operation of parking meters, to see that vehicles are parked properly and to issue summonses to parking offenders and do related work as required.
The Parking Violations Officer checks the condition of parking meters and refers repair persons to parking meters needing their attention; notifies police personnel of conditions that may warrant their attention; gives testimony in court; prepares clear reports of significant activities and conditions; writes out summonses; lays out car zones and parking areas for the installation of new parking meters; checks parking meters that are vandalized or damaged by theft, prank or drivers and reports such items; issues summonses to vehicles that are parked unlawfully; when patrolling assigned area, checks for vehicles that are listed stolen by police and reports them for recovery; issues summonses to vehicles that are parked overtime on any meter in assigned areas; and maintains necessary records.

The Parking Violations Officer shall:
A. 
Have the ability to read and write English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
B. 
Be eligible for special officer's permit. In order to obtain this permit, applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
C. 
Have some knowledge of the problems involved in parking violations, of the procedures used in dealing with such problems, of the keeping of records and of the making of reports of conditions noted and actions taken.
D. 
Have the ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions, to analyze routine problems, organize assigned work and develop effective work methods, to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and from demonstrations, to note significant conditions and take the proper action in accordance with the prescribed procedures, to report significant conditions noted and actions taken and to keep relevant records.
E. 
Have good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.

The salary of Parking Violations Officer is to be set by Annual Salary Ordinance of the Borough of North Arlington.
