As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
ACTIVE FIREFIGHTER
Any member of the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association or the Paulsboro Volunteer Fire Association who is 18 years of age and who has been or who hereafter shall be approved by Borough Council as a member of the Paulsboro Fire Department and actively participates in the usual duties of a fire fighter under the direction and supervision of the Fire Chief in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:47-52.[1]
BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION
The Bureau of Fire Prevention in the Paulsboro Fire Department shall consist of the Chief Fire Marshal and Assistant Fire Marshal(s). The Fire Chief shall oversee the Bureau. The Mayor and Chairman of the Public Safety Committee of Borough Council shall be ex officio members of the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
EXEMPT FIRE FIGHTER
Any member of the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association or the Paulsboro Volunteer Fire Association who has fulfilled the requirements of the New Jersey Firemen's Association and has received his/her certificate of exemption in said state association.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Paulsboro Fire Department of the Borough of Paulsboro shall consist of a Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief, an Assistant Fire Chief, and a Chief Fire Marshal. It will also consist of Assistant Fire Marshal(s), Captain(s) and Lieutenant(s) and the active, exempt and life fire fighters of the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association and the Paulsboro Volunteer Fire Association #1. The Paulsboro Fire Department shall be governed by rules and regulations set forth by their Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Guidelines and the Borough ordinance. The Paulsboro Fire Department shall be the primary organization to extinguish fires and handle other emergency response (non-EMS) calls in the Borough of Paulsboro. The Borough of Paulsboro shall supply the operating budget.
LIFE FIRE FIGHTER
Any member of the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association or the Paulsboro Fire Association who has fulfilled the requirements as defined within the associations' bylaws to obtain life status.
