There shall be a position of Municipal Clerk appointed by the governing body. No person shall be appointed to the position of Municipal Clerk unless he or she holds a registered municipal clerk certificate as required by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133.

The term of office of the Municipal Clerk shall be for a period of three years, which shall run from January 1 of the year in which he is appointed.[1]

The Borough Clerk shall be a full-time employee and shall attend all meetings of the Mayor and Council, keep a correct record of all proceedings and perform such other duties as the Mayor and Council may require or direct or as may be provided by law (N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133 et seq.).
