A. 
There is hereby created an Office of Human Rights and Affirmative Action for the City of Yonkers for the purpose of fostering mutual respect and understanding among all in the City. There shall be an Executive Director of the Office of Human Rights who shall also serve as Affirmative Action Officer and who shall be selected by and report to the Mayor in accordance with New York State Law.
B. 
The Office of Human Rights and Affirmative Action shall have the power to investigate reports of unlawful discrimination or incidents of discrimination on the basis of race; creed; color; national origin; sexual orientation; gender identity or expression; military, veteran or disabled veteran status; sex; age; disability or marital status among or between such groups and to take appropriate action and exercise any other power or duty that may be authorized by local law or ordinance.
