The governing body of the City of Port Republic desires that
land use controls imposed by municipal ordinances and other regulations
be applied fairly and accurately so that the resources and environmental
quality of the City of Port Republic are not damaged.
An Environmental Commission is hereby established for the protection,
development and use of natural resources, including water resources,
located within the City of Port Republic. The Commission shall have
the following attributes and powers:
A. The Commission shall consist of five members and two alternates,
each of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor. Alternates shall be
designated at the time of appointment as "Alternate No. 1" and "Alternate
No. 2."

B. All members of the Commission shall serve without compensation.
C. The terms of the initial members to be appointed shall be as follows:
three members for one year, three members for two years and one member
for three years. After the initial appointments, the terms of all
members shall be for terms of three years.

D. The Environmental Commission shall have the power to conduct research
into the use and possible use of open areas of the municipality and
may advertise, prepare, print and distribute books, maps, charts,
plans and pamphlets which, in its judgment, it deems necessary for
its own purposes.
E. The Environmental Commission shall prepare and submit to the Planning
Board and to the Board of Adjustment, for their use, an index of natural resources of the City
of Port Republic.
F. The Environmental Commission shall study and make recommendations
to the Mayor, Municipal Council, Planning Board and Board of Adjustment
concerning open space preservation, water resources, air pollution
control, solid waste management, noise control, soil and landscape
protection, environmental appearance and rain resources.
