A. 
All fire hydrants shall have a minimum eight-inch supply lateral and shall be equipped with either a resilient wedge or gate valve that can be used to shut off the flow of water to the hydrant. All hydrants shall comply with AWWA standards. Further, all hydrants shall be placed according to plans submitted and approved by the Town and by the Rensselaer County Health Department. All new or replacement hydrants shall be equipped with "break-away" flanges. All new and replacement hydrants shall be American - Darling, Model 5 1/4 inches B-84-B-5-type as manufactured by the Darling Valve and Manufacturing Company, Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Mueller Super Centurion 250, A-423, 5 1/4 inches main valve opening three-way or approved equal. All hydrants shall be equipped with a one-quarter turn Storz nozzle five-inch connection.
B. 
No unauthorized person shall operate a fire hydrant. Persons authorized to operate a hydrant include the Water System Operator and members of a duly recognized fire department during the performance of their official duties. All discharges from hydrants shall be monitored, recorded and reported to the Town. A violation of this section is an offense punishable by a fine of up to $250.[1]

C. 
In the case that a hydrant is opened to provide emergency services to protect real or personal property (fire or accident), the receiver of water charges shall attempt to recover charges from a responsible party.
D. 
No structure, vehicle, trailer or other object shall be constructed or placed within 15 feet of a hydrant, nor should any vegetation be planted or maintained so as to impede access to or operation of the hydrant. Nothing shall be fastened to the hydrant without the express written permission of the Water System Operator.[2]
