MGL c. 48, § 25, sets forth the duties of the Forest Warden, including extinguishment of fires; investigation of causes; and posting of warning notices.
MGL c. 132, § 37, sets forth the additional duties of local forest wardens, including the duty to investigate the values of forest lands, the character and extent of woodcutting operations, the prevalence of insect pests injurious to forest growths, and other matters affecting the extent and condition of woodlands.
Historical Notes:
Article 3 of the 4-30-1908 Town Meeting accepted the provisions of St. 1907, c. 475, § 2 (now codified at MGL c. 48, § 25; and at MGL c. 132, § 37), authorizing the engineers of the Fire Department to perform the duties and exercise powers of Forest Wardens with respect to forest fires.]
