The Township Auditor shall be appointed by the Township Committee and shall hold office for a term of one year beginning on the date of said appointment and terminating on December 31 or the appointment of a qualified successor. The Township Auditor shall maintain a license as a certified public accountant and a registered municipal auditor during the term of his or her appointment.
The Township Auditor shall undertake all tasks necessary to prepare, submit and gain required approval of the annual municipal budget. The Township Auditor shall perform an annual audit of the financial affairs of the Township and submit a written report as required by law. The Township Auditor shall also prepare any and all financial statements and reports required by law and render all opinions when called upon by the Township Committee, its employees, officers and/or appointees as needed.
The Township Auditor shall be paid normal and customary fees charged by auditors in the State of New Jersey in the manner and amount set forth by contract with the Township and upon the submission of appropriate vouchers as required by law. A violation of the New Jersey Local Government Ethics Law[1] may result in a forfeiture of all or a portion of the auditor's compensation.
