For the purpose of this article, the following terms, phrases, words and their deviations shall have the meanings stated herein. Where not inconsistent with the context, words used in the present tense include the future; words used in the plural number include the singular number; and words used in the singular number shall include the plural number. The word "shall" is also mandatory and not merely directory.
OWNER/KEEPER
Any person who shall own, keep, possess, maintain, house, harbor, control, direct or otherwise have custody of any pet, whether or not the owner of such pet.
PERSON
Any individual, corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or limited liability company.
PET
A domesticated animal kept for amusement, security, companionship or any other reason (other than a guide dog or mobility assist dog while such dog is accompanying a blind or disabled person).
Pets shall not be permitted on any school grounds or school property or other property owned or controlled by the Lodi Board of Education except with the express permission of the principal of that particular school and upon the specific terms and conditions granted by said principal. Any person who brings or permits his or her pet to enter upon any school grounds or school property or other property owned or controlled by the Lodi Board of Education or is found to have his or her pet running at large on said property shall be found to have violated this article.
In accordance with Lodi Board of Education Policy No. 7490, the Board of Education through its principals or maintenance staff shall give notice regarding the prohibition of pets on said property by posting an appropriate sign on said property where enforcement is sought.
Any person who is found to be in violation of the provisions of this article shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $2,000, imprisonment for a period not exceeding 90 days and/or a period of community service not exceeding 90 days.
