[CC 1999 §2-27]
The Mayor shall take the oath, possess the qualifications, be invested with the power and perform such other duties as are prescribed by State law, ordinances and City Charter.
[CC 1999 §2-28]
The Mayor shall have general supervision and control of all the City Officers and, whenever he/she shall see fit, may examine the condition of their respective offices, books, papers and records therein, the manner of conducting their official business and may call upon any officer, clerk or deputy for information in relation to any matter pertaining to his/her office and may require any officer to make a report in writing of any matter pertaining to his/her office.

The Mayor shall report to the City Council all violations or neglect of duty on the part of any officer which may come to his/her knowledge and the City Council may take such action as the facts warrant.

It shall be the duty of the Mayor to see that the provisions of this Code and ordinances of this City are executed and enforced.
[CC 1999 §2-31]
The Mayor, in the case of an emergency where imminent danger exists to the citizens of the City, shall have power to direct the action of the City Police and to call to his/her aid all citizens to aid in the suppressing of all disturbances and breaches of the peace and in case of urgent necessity to employ special Police for temporary purposes at the expense of the City.

The Mayor shall have power to make arrests in cases where he/she has good reason to believe an offense has been committed by any person or persons and to summon persons to his/her aid in making such arrests. All persons arrested by the Mayor shall be turned over to the Police Judge to be dealt with according to law.
[CC 1999 §2-33]
All officers whose appointment is authorized by the City Charter, provisions of this Code or ordinances of the City shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council at the first (1st) regular meeting held after such vacancy or as soon thereafter as practicable and the Mayor shall fill any vacancy that occurs in any appointive office as hereinafter provided.

The Mayor shall preside at all meetings of the City Council.

The Mayor shall sign the appointment or commission of every officer elected or appointed to the City Government.
[CC 1999 §2-36]
The Mayor shall have a vote upon matters coming before the Council only in the event a tie vote occurs among the Councilmen.

A. 
The Mayor shall have the power to retire badge numbers of City law enforcement and firefighter/EMS employees through official proclamation if the Mayor determines:
1. 
The employee perished in the line of duty due in part to the hazardous nature of public service; or
2. 
The employee exemplified exceptional service and retired after leaving an impact through his/her leadership in the service of the City.
