The office of Street Commissioner is hereby established for
the City.

The Street Commissioner shall be appointed by the Mayor with
the approval of the Board of Aldermen.

The Street Commissioner shall hold his/her office for a term
to run concurrently with the term of the Mayor by whom he/she is appointed
and until a successor shall have been appointed and qualified.

A. The
Street Commissioner shall:
1. Superintend and personally supervise the opening, grading and macadamizing
of any street, alley or avenue in the City, the grading, paving or
repairing of all sidewalks and the construction of bridges and culverts.
The Street Commissioner shall further visit, when necessary, all projects
under his/her control and the control of his/her department, make
estimates thereof and see that all contractors are constructing the
same according to the contract.
2. Suspend the execution of every contract when the contractor is not
performing the same properly and report such fact to the Board of
Aldermen at the next meeting.
3. Make all necessary repairs to the streets, alleys, avenues, bridges
and culverts of the City under the direction of the Board of Aldermen.
4. Supervise employees and write all necessary documents to the Board
and City Administrator as required under the administrative functions
of said office.
