Five Town Board Supervisors. One of the Supervisors shall be designated on the ballot as Town Board Chair. (See 1996 annual meeting minutes and ordinance creating five-person board.)[1]

Except as otherwise required by law, elected and appointed officials shall take and file any required official oath within five days after notice of election or appointment and shall execute and file any official bond as required by state statutes and this Code (§ 60.31, Wis. Stats.)
A. 
Elected officials. Elected officials may be removed for cause by the Judge of the Circuit Court as provided in § 17.13(3), Wis. Stats.
B. 
Appointed officials. An appointive official may be removed by the office or body by which he or she was appointed as permitted in § 17.13(1), Wis. Stats., or by the Judge of the Circuit Court as permitted by § 17.13(3), Wis. Stats.
C. 
Assessors and Board of Review. In addition to being removable as otherwise permitted, Assessors and Board of Review members may be removed by the Circuit Court as permitted by § 17.14, Wis. Stats.
A. 
How occurring. Vacancies in elective and appointive positions are caused as provided in §§ 17.03 and 17.035, Wis. Stats.
B. 
How filled. Vacancies in elective and appointive offices shall be filled as provided in § 17.25, Wis. Stats.
Whenever the Town Chair is absent or because of illness or incapacity is temporarily unable to perform the duties of his office and the Town Board is of the opinion that business requiring action by the Chair need be performed, the remaining members of the Town Board may appoint an Acting Chair. The Acting Chair shall file the necessary oath and bond as required by § 65-3 hereof and shall thereupon be vested with all authority of the office of Town Chair. The Acting Chair shall continue to serve until expiration of the time established by the Town Board or until the Town Board determines that the temporary vacancy has ceased. In the event the Chair is of the opinion that he or she is again available and able to serve, he or she is empowered to call a special Town Board meeting to consider whether the temporary vacancy has ceased. At such time as the appointment of the Acting Chair expires or upon the Town Board's determination that the temporary vacancy has ceased, the authority of the Acting Chair shall cease and the Chair shall be restored to full authority.

The compensation of all appointed and elected officials shall be as determined by the Town Board.

B. 
Except for offices combined under § 60.305, Wis. Stats., no Town officer shall be compensated for acting in more than one official capacity or office of the Town at the same time.
At the Annual Town Meeting on April 6, 1958, a motion was adopted granting the Town village powers.

B. 
Authority.
(1) 
The Town Board of the Town of Algoma has the specific authority, powers and duties, pursuant to §§ 60.22 and 60.23, Wis. Stats., and has, with authorization of the Town Meeting, additional statutory authority, powers and duties to manage and direct certain affairs of the Town of Algoma (§§ 60.10 and 60.11, Wis. Stats.). In addition, the Town Board of the Town of Algoma has additional general and specific statutory authority, powers and duties established beyond Ch. 60, Wis. Stats.
(2) 
The Town Board of the Town of Algoma does confirm the specific statutory authority, powers and duties of the Town Board of the Town of Algoma established in Ch. 60, Wis. Stats., and has established, pursuant to the above-noted chapter and this Code, other statutory authority, powers and duties of the Town Board of the Town of Algoma to manage and direct the affairs of the Town of Algoma.
C. 
Attendance. A Board position shall become vacant if a Board member fails to attend three consecutive regular meetings of the Board without being excused. If, in a six-month period, a Board member's attendance is 50% or less the position also becomes vacant.

D. 
Excused and unexcused absences. For an absence to be considered excused, the Board member shall contact the Town office or Town Chair no later than 4:00 p.m. of the day of the meeting of the requested absence. All other absences will be considered unexcused.

E. 
Town Chair ex officio member of committees. The Town Chair shall be an ex officio member of all committees, except the Board of Review, and have the power to vote in such committee only in the absence of one or more committee members. Under Robert's Rules of Order, an ex officio member is not counted in calculating the quorum and in determining whether a quorum is present at a meeting.

Applicable statute. See § 60.307 and Ch. 70, Wis. Stats.
(2) 
Other duties prescribed by law. He shall perform such other duties as shall be prescribed by state law, supervisory personnel of the State Department of Revenue and the Town Board, including attendance at all meetings of the Board of Review.

Powers and duties. The Town Attorney shall perform such duties as directed by the Town Board.
