Town of Algoma, WI Article I Speed Limits

§ 320-1 Speed limits established.

A. A traffic and engineering investigation having been made on the following described highways, the maximum permissible speed at which vehicles may be operated on said highways, which speed is herewith established as reasonable and safe pursuant to § 349.11, Wis. Stats., shall be as set forth herein, subject to approval by the State Department of Transportation, and upon the erection of standard signs giving notice thereof:[1]

(1) Leonard Point Road, 35 miles per hour for all vehicles from Omro Road to Leonard Point Road, west.

(2) 9th Street Road, 45 miles per hour for all vehicles from a point 0.35 of a mile west of Oakwood Road to Clairville Road.

B. Any person violating any provision of this section may be fined not less than $20 nor more than $200.

§ 320-2 Additional speed limits.

A. The speed limit on North Oakwood Road, from Omro Road to Lake Butt des Morts, shall be 25 miles per hour.

§ 320-3 Limit on roads where no other limit prescribed.

[Added 10-19-1988 by Ord. No. 51[1]]

The fixed legal speed limit of traffic on all Town roads for which no other speed limit has been otherwise established by the Town Board shall be 25 miles per hour.

§ 320-4 Roadways in semiurban district.

[Added 10-17-1990 by Ord. No. 58; amended 8-21-1991 by Ord. No. 64]

A. The following roadways in the Town of Algoma having been determined to lie within a semiurban district as defined by § 346.57(1)(b), Wis. Stats., and the Town Board having determined that the maximum reasonable and safe speed to operate a motor vehicle on such roadways is 25 miles per hour maximum speed, the Town Board opts to exercise its authority under § 349.11(3)(c), Wis. Stats., to modify the speed limit on such roadways by designating them as set forth below:

B. The speed limit set forth above shall be effective upon erection of standard signs giving notice thereof.

C. Violations and penalties.

(1) The penalty for violation of any provision of this section shall be a forfeiture as hereafter provided together with costs under § 345.27, Wis. Stats., and the penalty assessment, where applicable, as required under § 757.05(1), Wis. Stats.

(2) Except as otherwise provided in this section, the penalty for a violation of a provision of this section shall be as provided in § 1-2 of this Code.
