The Town of Lysander hereby adopts the following policy statement and will include said statement as part of any application for employment and, in addition, will notify the public of such policy by providing adequate notice in accordance with the handicapped regulations as outlined by the Office of Revenue Sharing.
Policy Statement
It is the policy of the Town of Lysander to observe and comply with the Rehabilitation Act of 1974 (the basic requirement of which prohibits discrimination on the basis of handicapped status). Prohibitions against such discrimination shall apply in the hiring or firing, compensation or benefits, terms, conditions or privileges of employment in connection with opportunity for training or advancement and access to programs, activities and facilities as well as services rendered or provided by the Town of Lysander.
The Town of Lysander shall take and continue to take steps to notify the public of specific changes made by the Town to improve access to programs and activities by the handicapped.
The Town shall evaluate its current policy and practices in order to determine the areas of noncompliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act,[1] if any, and thereafter make nonstructural changes to achieve compliance, if any are necessary.

The Town shall determine the areas where structural changes may be necessary, and it agrees to prepare transition plans in order to show how and when said changes, if any are necessary, will be made. The transition plans shall show changes over a period not to exceed three years from the date of adoption of this chapter.

The self-evaluation transition plans, pursuant to the Americans with Disability Act and Section 504 of the Americans with Disability Act, as hereinabove described, shall be available for public inspection at the office of the Town Clerk.

The office of the current Supervisor of the Town of Lysander shall be responsible for the coordination of efforts to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.[1]

The procedure to be followed in the event that a grievance is filed alleging handicapped discrimination shall be as follows:
A. 
A complaint, in writing, must be filed with the Clerk of the Town of Lysander.
B. 
The Town Clerk shall then make copies of said complaint and deliver them to each Town Board member.
C. 
The Town Board will thereafter consider said complaint at a time and date to be set by it after due notification to the complainant.
