The Board of Trustees of the Village of Chestnut Ridge hereby determines that the discharge of firearms in populated areas is detrimental to the safety and welfare of persons residing in those area.
It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or cause to be discharged any handgun, revolver, shotgun, rifle, or any other firearm that emits explosive powder or pellets of any kind, whether explosive or not, within the geographical boundaries of the Village of Chestnut Ridge.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to:
A. 
A law enforcement officer in the performance of his official duties.
B. 
The lawful use of a firearm in defense of person or property.
C. 
The authorized use of a pistol, rifle or target range regularly operated and maintained by any duly organized membership corporation and wholly on premise owned, rented or leased by said corporation, but not within 1,000 feet of any dwelling, and provided that said use will be conducted with due regard for the safety of the surrounding community.
The Code Enforcement Officer of the Village of Chestnut Ridge is hereby authorized to issue appearance tickets for the violation of any provision of this chapter.
Any person violating any provision of this chapter shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $1,000 and/or imprisonment for a period not to exceed 15 days.
