There is hereby created a Cemetery Advisory Board pursuant to the authority of the Township Committee under N.J.S.A. 40A:63-7(d).
The purpose of the Cemetery Advisory Board is to provide guidance, expertise and recommendations to the Shamong Township Committee on any and all matters related to the creation and administration of the municipal cemetery on Willow Grove Road. The Board shall be advisory only, and shall have no independent authority to make determinations, including but not limited to the expenditure of funds, and all such determinations shall be made at the Township Committee level.
Terms. The terms of members one through five shall be commensurate with their positions or appointments. The terms of members six and seven (resident members) shall be for three-year terms.
Vacancy. Any vacancy occurring other than the expiration of a term shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner as the original term. A resident member who, subsequent to his or her appointment, shall move from the Township of Shamong shall immediately vacate and forfeit his or her membership on the Cemetery Advisory Board, and the seat shall be deemed vacant until an appointment is made by the Township Committee to fill the unexpired term of the vacated seat.
The Cemetery Advisory Board shall meet every quarter and more frequently if a need is determined by the Mayor or Administrator.
The Board shall meet by January 31 of each year.
The Township Committee of the Township of Shamong shall periodically review the actions and achievements of the Shamong Township Cemetery Advisory Board and amend the membership, purpose and/or duties of the Board as it deems necessary.
