As used in this article, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
CHICKENS
Only female members of the species Gallus gallus domesticus.
RUNNING AT LARGE
Running at large shall be construed to mean allowing a chicken
to be off the private premises of the owner or keeper and not under
the direct, effective and actual control of said owner or keeper or
his agent or servant.
No more than six chickens may be located at one residence. No
roosters shall be allowed.
All chickens shall be contained in an enclosure and chickens
shall not be allowed to run at large. All enclosures shall be located
not less than five feet from the property line. No enclosure shall
be located on the front or side yard of any property. All enclosures
shall be predator-proof with a top and shall provide sun and shade
protection. All enclosures shall be surrounded by a fence which shall
not be shorter than three feet tall.
Chickens shall have a coop, not larger than 60 square feet and
not taller than six feet high. Chickens shall not be kept inside of
any dwelling. Each coop shall be predator-proof with a top, ventilated,
and shall provide sun, shade and year-round weather protection. Each
coop shall provide easy access so that the coop shall be kept in a
clean and sanitary condition.
There shall be no slaughtering of chickens permitted on any
premises within the Village limits.

Any Village resident desiring to own one to six chickens shall
pay a one-time fee to the Village Administrative Clerk in an amount
set from time to time by the Village Board.
The raising of chickens and production of eggs shall be for
personal use only and the sale of chickens or eggs shall not be permitted
within the Village limits.
Any ill or diseased chicken shall receive prompt and appropriate
treatment. If, in the opinion of a licensed veterinarian, a chicken
has a serious illness or disease which threatens the spread of an
infectious disease, the diseased or ill chicken shall be removed from
the Village limits within 24 hours of the veterinarian's diagnosis.
The Village Administrative Clerk or the Police Chief shall be notified
of any such serious illness or disease.
