For the purpose of this chapter, certain terms, phrases, and words are defined as follows:
CARTWAY
The portion of a street right-of-way, paved or unpaved, customarily used by vehicles in the regular course of travel over the street.
CLEAR SIGHT TRIANGLE
An area of unobstructed vision at street intersections defined by lines of sight between points at a given distance from the intersection of the street center lines.
DRIVEWAY
A private means of vehicular and pedestrian access from a public or private street to a single lot or multiple lots. The term "driveway," as used in this chapter, does not include field access entrances used for agricultural purposes. The general types of driveways include the following:
A. 
DRIVEWAY, COMMONA driveway providing access to contiguous lots, which is established and maintained in accordance with the applicable requirements of this chapter, the Township Zoning Ordinance,[1] Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance[2] and all other applicable laws and regulations.
B. 
DRIVEWAY, SHAREDSee "driveway, common."
C. 
MINIMUM-USE DRIVEWAYA residential or other driveway which is used or expected to be used by 25 or fewer vehicles per day.
D. 
LOW-VOLUME DRIVEWAYA driveway used or expected to be used by more than 25 but less than 750 vehicles per day.
E. 
MEDIUM-VOLUME DRIVEWAYA driveway used or expected to be used by 750 to 1,500 vehicles per day.
F. 
HIGH-VOLUME DRIVEWAYA driveway used or expected to be used by 1,500 or more vehicles per day.
DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE
The area between the street right-of-way line and the cartway used to access a property.
ENGINEER
A professional engineer, licensed in Pennsylvania, that performs the duties of an engineer as herein specified.
EROSION
The removal of surface materials by the action of natural elements, including, but not limited to, water, snow, ice, or wind.
GRADE
The change in elevation between any two points along a uniform slope on the center line of a driveway, divided by the horizontal distance between those points and multiplied by 100. Grade is usually expressed as a percentage (e.g., an eight-foot elevation change over a 100-foot horizontal distance is an 8% slope).
PERMIT ADMINISTRATOR
The individual or firm appointed by the Board of Supervisors of Marlborough Township having the responsibility for administering and enforcing the terms and provisions of this chapter.
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
The individual employed or appointed by the Board of Supervisors of Marlborough Township and having the position of Public Works Director.
RIGHT-OF-WAY
The total width of any land reserved or dedicated as a street, alley, or crosswalk, or for any other public or private purpose. The legal right-of-way for existing streets is 33 feet. 16.5 feet from the center line of the cartway, unless an ultimate right-of-way has been offered for dedication and accepted by the Township of Marlborough. RIGHT-OF-WAY, ULTIMATE
The right-of-way projected as necessary for adequate handling of anticipated maximum traffic volumes, depending on the classification of street, as listed in the Township Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. The ultimate right-of-way is the legal right-of-way where it has been offered for dedication and accepted by the Township of Marlborough.
STREET
A right-of-way intended for general public or private use, to provide means of approach for vehicles and pedestrians. The word "street" includes the words "road," "highway," "thoroughfare," and "way."
SUBDIVIDER
Any individual, firm, partnership, association, corporation, estate, trust, or any other group or combination acting as a unit (or agent authorized thereby) that undertakes the subdivision or development of land.
SURVEYOR
A professional land surveyor licensed in Pennsylvania.
TOWNSHIP
Marlborough Township, Montgomery County.
TOWNSHIP ENGINEER
A professional engineer, licensed in Pennsylvania, and duly designated by the Township, to perform the duties of engineer as herein specified.
TOWNSHIP STREET
A street under the jurisdiction of Marlborough Township.
