All roofs and paved areas, yards, courts and
courtyards shall be drained into the stormwater sewerage system but
not into sewers intended for sewage only. Where there is no sewer
accessible, such connections shall be discharged into the public gutter,
unless otherwise permitted by the proper authorities, and in such
case need not be trapped.
When placed within the walls of any building
or run in an inner or interior court or ventilating pipe shaft, all
conductors or roof leaders shall be constructed of cast iron or of
galvanized wrought-iron or steel pipe.
Conductor pipes shall not be used as soil, waste
or vent pipes nor shall any soil, waste or vent pipes be used as conductors.
House or intercepting traps and fresh-air inlets are prohibited in
connection with house drains.
Overflow pipes from cisterns, supply tanks,
expansion tanks and drip pans shall connect only indirectly with any
house sewer, house drain, soil, waste or vent pipe.
No blowoff or drip or steam exhaust from any
boiler or piping system connected thereto shall be directly connected
with the house drain into the sewer. Such connections may be permitted
with the written approval of the Plumbing Inspector if provision is
made for the discharge of steam or hot water into a suitable storage
tank or steam condenser and the gradual release therefrom.
Cellar drains in or below the cellar floor to
remove groundwater, drains of areaways, roof leaders or the discharge
pipe from any pump or other similar mechanical device arranged to
care for water from such sources shall not be connected directly or
indirectly with any public or private sewage disposal system. Whenever
inspections indicate that water from such sources is being discharged
into the sewage disposal system, either directly or indirectly, and
such discharge shall continue after 10 days' notice to correct said
condition, the owner and any other person responsible for or aiding
in the creation or maintenance of said condition shall be guilty of
a violation of this chapter. Such notice shall be deemed sufficient
if given to the owner by mail addressed to him at his address shown
on the tax rolls of the Township of Saddle Brook or to any other person
or address theretofore designated by the owner.
Except as otherwise provided in this chapter,
no person shall deposit or introduce into any house drain or plumbing
system any foreign matter, such as garbage, vegetable parings, cloth,
ashes, cinders or sticks, or any insoluble matter or any matter or
thing other than human excremental matter and liquid bath, laundry
and kitchen wastes.
In the event of the replacement of any water
pipe, hot-water storage tank, gas water heater, automatic water heater,
tankless heater, air-conditioning unit connected with the water supply,
washing machine or other device requiring water connection, a fee
of $2 shall be paid for each unit.
