The Bern Township Board of Supervisors shall designate by resolution, to be kept on file in the Office of the Township Secretary, the official fire company for the Township of Bern (hereinafter referred to as the "Fire Company").

A.
The Fire Company recognized by the Township is hereby authorized to provide such services to the Township as may be necessary or reasonably required to preserve and protect the life, limb and property of all persons situate therein, including fire suppression, fire prevention, response to medical emergencies, containment and cleanup of hazardous materials and all other actions necessitated by emergency circumstances.
B.
The Fire Company may also provide nonemergency and public service functions designed or intended to prevent or abate any real and present danger, or substantial threat thereof, to public property, personal property and/or personal injury from any public condition regardless of cause.
C.
The Fire Company may also conduct, participate or engage in such training activities, drills, forums or seminars, regardless of location, as the firefighting officers of the company shall, within the reasonable exercise of their discretion, deem necessary and appropriate for the maintenance of proficiency of company personnel.
D.
The Fire Company may respond to calls for assistance from any corresponding fire company or municipality regardless of whether the site or location for the same is beyond the corporate limits of Bern Township.
In addition to the activities set forth in § 15-2 hereinabove, the designated Fire Company and its members shall be afforded protection by Bern Township workers' compensation coverage during any community fund-raising drive, solicitation program, parade or other activity not specifically enumerated herein, provided that prior written approval for the same is given by the Bern Township Board of Supervisors.
