The Village of Ridgewood Fire Prevention Bureau
is responsible for insuring that businesses, restaurants and places
of public assembly are in compliance with the New Jersey Fire Code.
The New Jersey Fire Code requires fire extinguishers to be installed
and available for employees' use in businesses, restaurants and places
of public assembly in case of a small fire. The Occupational Safety
& Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to provide annual
training for employees on the general principals of fire extinguisher
use and hazards involved with incipient stage fire fighting. [29 CFR
1910.157(g)].
Each employer shall provide a certificate of
training for his or her employees during the annual fire inspection.
Said certificate shall be presented to the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
Employers may have fire extinguisher training
provided by any qualified agency. The Ridgewood Fire Department will,
at the request of an employer, provide this training at the Ridgewood
Fire Department at cost of $10 per employee.
It shall be the duty of the Fire Chief, Senior
Fire Inspector and Fire Inspector(s) of the Ridgewood Fire Department
to insure employees have received this training during their annual
fire inspections.
