This chapter applies to all fire hydrants installed by contractors, their agents, subcontractors or by the owners of commercial, industrial or business companies or education or health facilities on private property in the Village of Potsdam.
All hydrants must meet the standards of the Village of Potsdam.
A. 
All applications for private hydrants must be submitted in writing to the Superintendent of Public Works, who will give a copy to the Fire Chief.
B. 
The application shall include:
(1) 
A detailed map of all hydrant locations in relation to the street or building locations.
(2) 
A statement that the hydrants will conform to the standards used by the village as regards the manufacturer, size, style and NST thread.
Hydrants shall be located within 20 feet of the street, easily accessible to fire pumpers, and must face the street.
The owner shall:
A. 
Agree to keep the hydrant free of snow, ice, grass or brush.
B. 
Erect no-parking signs on request of the Village Board and will maintain same.
C. 
Agree to paint hydrants in accordance with color-code systems adopted by the village on information supplied by the Superintendent of Public Works.
D. 
Acknowledge that the cost of the hydrant and necessary materials for installation, as well as installation costs, are the responsibility of the property owner.
E. 
Be cognizant of the fact the provisions of this chapter shall be complied with prior to the issuance of a building permit.
