The owner and occupant of every lot or other
property in the Village of Woodsburgh which abuts a public sidewalk
within the Village of Woodsburgh shall keep and maintain such sidewalk
in a condition safe for public travel and shall promptly repair and
remedy all defects in such sidewalk. Such maintenance shall include
keeping such sidewalk free from obstruction from snow or ice, and
each such person shall, within 24 hours after such snow and ice shall
have fallen to the ground, remove the same. In addition, such maintenance
shall include keeping such sidewalk in good and safe repair and clean
and free from dirt, filth and weeds or any other matter which constitutes
an obstruction or encumbrance to public use of the sidewalk.
In addition to any penalties provided by law
for violations of provisions of this Code, any person who violates
the provisions of this article shall be responsible civilly to any
person injured, or who sustains property damage, by reason of such
violation and shall be required to hold the Village of Woodsburgh
harmless, and indemnify the village, from and against any and all
expenses or liability arising out of such violation.
