A. 
Every person convicted of an offense pursuant to the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law shall be punished by a fine not exceeding the maximum fine permitted pursuant to the Vehicle and Traffic Law, or imprisonment not exceeding the maximum term prescribed in the Vehicle and Traffic Law, or both such fine and imprisonment, and each such person also shall be required to pay all surcharges or other penalties, if any, provided for by law.
B. 
Every person convicted of a violation of any law, ordinance or regulation of the Village of Woodsburgh applicable to the operation of a motor vehicle shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000.
C. 
For an offense charging a violation of any parking law, rule or regulation, subject to limitations imposed under state law, if any, the registered owner or operator who fails to answer an appearance ticket or summons, as the case may be, on or prior to the assigned court return date as set forth in the appearance ticket or summons shall be subject to the following additional penalties:

(1) 
Failure to answer an appearance ticket or summons within 30 days of the date of the alleged offense will result in the fine being doubled.
(2) 
Failure to answer an appearance ticket or summons within 60 days of the date of the alleged offense will result in the fine being tripled.
(3) 
Failure to answer an appearance ticket or summons within 90 days of the date of the alleged offense will result in additional penalties added by the Village Court or Traffic Violations Bureau.
(4) 
In addition to monetary fines or penalties, failure to answer an appearance ticket or summons may result in one or more of the following:
(a) 
Being classified as a scofflaw, thereby resulting in the potential suspension of your vehicle registration; or
(b) 
Filing of a complaint and/or a default judgment with the appropriate authorities; or
(c) 
Other actions taken by other enforcement officials and agencies.
A. 
Except those parts, if any, which are subject to approval under § 1684 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York, this chapter and any regulations adopted hereunder shall take effect as provided by law.
B. 
Any part or parts of this chapter and any regulations adopted hereunder which are subject to approval under § 1684 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York shall take effect from and after the day on which approval in writing is received from the New York State Department of Transportation.
If any article, section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause or provision of this chapter shall be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such adjudication shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder thereof, but shall be confined in its operation to the Article, section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause or provision thereof directly involved in the controversy in which such judgment shall have been rendered.
All prior laws, ordinances, regulations and rules, or parts thereof, of this Village regulating traffic and parking are hereby repealed, except that this repeal shall not affect or prevent the prosecution or punishment of any person for any act done or committed in violation of any ordinance, regulation or rule hereby repealed prior to the taking effect of this chapter.
